On January 28th, 2008, Spyder was taken from us too soon. He was 10 years old
and was happy right up until the moment he passed away despite his painful
suffering from cancer and difficult breathing. Spyder's heart was working
overtime as he wasn't getting enough oxygen into his blood. He also had a tumor
near his heart, a tumor in his abdomen, cancer riddled throughout his lungs,
gall bladder stones, his white blood cell count was extremely low,
and they believe he may have had pneumonia on top of all of this. Three vets
checked out Spyder and all agreed there was nothing more they could do for
him as the cancer had eaten away his lungs and he was struggling too much
to breathe. He was in pain and not eating anymore so we hope we made the
best decision we could for our best doGG. It is very heart-breaking.
The really bizarre part about all of this is that we never knew Spyder
was even sick. The only reason we took him to the Vet is because he
wasn't eating. He kept all of this pain and suffering to himself
and never let us know he was hurting or slowly dying. We believe he
truly wanted us to be happy and he was protecting us from the pain
he knew we would have if he let us know he was hurting.
He didn't start struggling to breathe until the last four days of his
life when he also stopped eating.
We new something was definitely
not right then and made him an appointment right away as the vet said
on the second day that it was not an emergency and to wait till after
the weekend.
As you could imagine, taking Spyder to the Vet for a
check up and then learning via blood tests and x-rays that he is on
his last breath a few hours later - this was devastating to us.
We were both in a state of shock, anger, denial guilt, and sadness.
We wish we would have known earlier so we could have done something to help him
but we also feel very lucky to have such a caring and concerned doGG
that loved us so much that he protected us until the very end.
We love this doGG so much and it seriously has left an empty spot
at our home and in our hearts.
Some of you may remember, in 2003, Spyder had TPLO surgery as he blew
his ACL. He recovered from that but had severe arthritis in his hind right leg.
Even though that pained him, he still smiled and gave everything his all
every day. We are very grateful to all of the doctors that have helped us with
Spyder and his journeys. We appreciate you all very much!
Spyder has had a great life and been through a lot but we are so thankful
he was in our lives to help us know what real love of an animal is.
He was taken from us way too soon- he is a gem of a dog. He loved every single
person he met and we believe everyone loved him. He is a very happy dog-
he smiled all the time even on his last day here with us. He truly is a
one-in-a-million dog! We are missing him greatly and wishing he was here.
We love him so much! This has truly broken our hearts. We want to thank
each and every one of you who love our doGGz like we do. Thank you for
your kind words of support and love. We appreciate it.
Spyder is more than just a doGG or pet, he is our friend and part of our family as
is our other two doGGz.
He is a real gem and is greatly missed!
Spyder and our other two doGGz each have a few profiles online!
